Offshore Cyprus - A promising new frontier

The commercial exploitation of off-shore natural gas reserves inherently entails a number of technical, logistical, maritime and environmental challenges. To this effect it is of paramount importance to grant the exploration licenses to truly market leading oil and gas companies that possess the necessary technical expertise, resources and know-how to maximise the possibility of success.

There are 13 exploration blocks within the off-shore EEZ of Cyprus that extend to the south of the island. At this stage, and following the completion of the third licensing round, the exploration licenses of 8 of the blocks were allocated to the following companies:

  • Exxon Mobil
    • The largest publicly traded international oil and gas company
    • Market Capitalisation – $355 billion as of January 2017

  • Total S.A
